Sauyo was once a vast farm land, which produces notable staple crops and supplies neighboring areas, and can only be reached by carabao-driven sleds.
The word “Uyo” was commonly referred to as balon (water well) that abounds in the area and the main sources of domestic water use.
It came to pass that when residents greet each other like “Saan ka pupunta?” (Where are you going?) or “Saan ka galling?” (Where you had been?), the casual answer was “Sa Uyo” (Ther in Uyo). By word of mouth, “Sa Uyo” was appropriately coined that gave birth to the modern name Sauyo.
Sauyo was created an independent Barangay through a decree by Mayor Norberto Amoranto under Executive Order No. 26 on June 25, 1975 in compliance with PD No. 557.
